I have an old brand laptop. When I open MS Outlook I'm getting this message "Microsoft Office Outlook A data file did not close properly". The last time when it was used there had no problems. But now why? What should I do?

This type of error occurs when MS outlook was not closed properly the last time you used it. Maybe due to sudden power cut off or forced to end task. I will suggest you to use MS Office installation CD and run the setup once again. In the installation option you will find three options:

1. Re-install
2. Repair
3. Remove

I will suggest you to use the "Repair" option and complete the setup. This will definitely solve your problem. Thanks!

Data file error may be encountered due to one of the given reasons. There is a probability that another application or program is accessing the outlook data file, and it did not exit in a proper manner. Another reason may be the antivirus scanning the file. Sometimes outlook crashes in the middle. It may be the reason. Mostly it happens when you shutdown your windows before the outlook shut downs completely. Because outlook cannot write the data from .pst files before it is forced closed. When this error occurs, the reconciliation of the data file becomes the responsibility of Outlook. Reconciliation of the data file means to clean up the file from incorrect shut down. During verification you can see the green gear in the lower-right corner of Outlook. This green gear disappears after verifying the data file. Now it is safe to shut down the Outlook.
