I have installed Ubuntu on my laptop because Windows XP was infected. I don't have CD-Rom so I tried to downloaded trial version of Microsoft Office 2007. But every time I try there is an error message that pops up saying, " Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Run setup from original source".

Following is the error image:

Setup Error

Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not available. Run Setup again from the original source disc or download location.

Help me please on this problem.

  • To install the office , try the solution provided below,
  • SOLUTION :
  • Try to Re-Download the office setup again, as it is very much possible that there are some files not downloaded properly.
  • If setup does not work even after the Re-Downloaded files, than check the following files in your setup program:
  • Open the Proofing.en-us" folder,  there should be folders for english, french, spanish. In each folders you will find three files, which are each called "Proof". One is a cabinet file, one is an installer, and one is an xml file. If there is a missing file in Spanish OR french folder, simply copy the same file from its english version and paste on the missing folder. Than Run set Up again.

The actual setup files have a problem. Softwares that are downloadable in the internet always come in one file. It comes in a compressed installation file created in InstallWise and other installation tools.

Sometimes the whole installation files including its folders are just compressed using any compression program such as WinRAR and creating an SFX (SelF-eXtracting) archive. SFX archives have .exe extension as any other executable file. Double-clicking it will launch it and asks you for an extraction folder where you want to save the extracted files.

After extraction it will automatically run the main file of the software for example here, the Microsoft Office 2007.

If you downloaded the setup file for MS-Office 2007 and confirmed that the download is complete, then you won’t have any problem installing it. But in your case the error posted says that there is a problem in one of the file(s). It’s either the file(s) is missing or really corrupted.

Try other sites that offer free download of Microsoft Office 2007. This program is quite big around 700+MB. Much better if you could find an available installer CD.
