Hi,

Are MS Forefront Endpoint Protection and Windows Intune similar?  If I obtain Intune, does it mean that I don’t need an Antivirus?

This is important for me to know.

Thanks Jamie

You have to understand what an antivirus do, and what Intune do.

First the Antivirus:

Antivirus is used to prevent and detect the Malware, Trojans, computer viruses, spyware and adware.

Intune is software which is used to centrally manage the policy, security of the computers in an environment. It is a web based managed application. It provides, the system status, alerts of all the systems in the environment.

Now let’s look into the endpoint security.

Endpoint is similar to the intune, up to the point where management is required, BUT, it also contains the Antivirus software, like Symantec, which is NOT present in the INTUNE.

So the actual difference, between windows intune and endpoint is the Antivirus factor.

I always strongly negate any environment without having the cover of any antivirus. Now it is possible that different PCs in an Intune environment have individual AV capabilities, BUT then this AV will not be centrally managed, like endpoint security.

So I will prefer Endpoint over intune.
