First of all I would like to answer your second question. Yes, there is an open source converter for this purpose. It is OLBreak. Download the software and convert the PST file to MSG file and import in MS Outlook 2010.

If you want to migrate .pst files to the Linux platform, Thunderbird will recognize them, and also Thunderbird should have the option to open those files and save them under a different extension.
