Microsoft Word shows error and cannot open application

I am using Microsoft XP and Office 2000. When I click Microsoft Word it showed a message – “Get the module name field.” And the application did not open. This same error was shown when I opened Microsoft PowerPoint. But with Excel and Access I have no problems.

I uninstalled and re-installed Microsoft Office but no change. How can I fix this kind of error?

Hello,

The major reasons for this kind of problems are:

  • You might be using the older version of Microsoft Data Access Components for your PC.
  • There might be some of the files of Microsoft Data Access Components is being corrupted by some virus.
  • There might be some file is deleted of Microsoft Data Access Components.

So first you have to check that after that you have to uninstall the Microsoft Data Access Components and then re-install it.

To install the Microsoft Data Access Components you have to follow the instructions which are given in this link and then restart your system and try again.

Thanks.

The above error may be because of the outdated version of MDAC. Or MDAC file is not available in the PC (removed somehow). Or MDAC file got corrupted. MDAC is the framework provided by Microsoft Corporation, which interacts with different types of data sources and Windows platform.

Try doing the following things to resolve the issue

  • Remove the office (uninstall Office)
  • Install any popular Antivirus program and scan the whole PC.
  • Connect to the Microsoft website and repair your Windows.
  • Install latest service packs/security updates provided by Microsoft Corporation
  • Go to this link
  • Check the latest version of MDAC and Install it.
  • Reinstall the Microsoft Office.

That is how you can get through the said problem.

Good day Chachajutex

I read your question and I thought, maybe I could help you out. Your question is about a certain error which your MS Word gives while opening it. It could be due to damaged registry of MS Word installed on your computer. I would suggest you to re-install this component of MS Office.

I would also recommend you to use a latest version of MS Office, i.e. MS Office 2010 or MS Office 2007. These versions are not so heavy and run easily on Windows XP and a computer with ordinary specifications. I would like if you will consider my second recommendation.

The rest is all your choice.

Thank you.

  • Open the control panel to align your computer adjustment.
  • Click on Programs.
  • Click on Programs and Features.
  • Click on View installed updates. You have to see there a list of Programs that installed. You have found the name of the Microsoft Office program wasn't listed in installed updates.

You have to purchase a CD of Microsoft Office programs for newly installations. You must avoid using Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2000. You can use MS Word 2007 software. Your previous software is disabled. So, work on a new software and find what result you may have or not have.

At first you should uninstall your Office program and then remove registry value:

If find out any file delete the file and search again the file by pressing "F3" and delete the file until the search complete

After that restart your computer and then install new version of the Office program (before previous version if you use Office 2000 now install Office XP) I am convinced that your problem will be solved.

Click start button

Run

Type: regedit

Press: ctrl+f

Type: Microsoft Office XP or Microsoft Office 2000
