Hello,

I have been using Microsoft security essentials but now recently I tried to upgrade it to version 2 but the upgrade fails and results in an error.

The screenshot of the error is attached below:

0x75ef3fbf referenced memory at 0x00xxxxx

The error states:

The instruction at 0x75ef3fbf referenced memory at 0x00xxxxx. The Memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the program.

Can anyone please tell me what does these memory numbers mean and how can I remove this error?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Hi Alexander Mitchell,

It happens often when upgrading MSE version 1 to version 2, because files would have got corrupted during the upgrade process on your computer. Just follow these steps:

1) Uninstall completely your MSE

2) Run scan to verify integrity of al system files

3) Reinstall MSE. If you want more information Microsoft security essentials v2 install and upgrade fail

Hi Alexander, Microsoft security essentials upgrade is tricky in the sense that you need to first restart the machine before installing the upgrade particularly in the case if you have other antivirus programs installed. What I would suggest is to restart the machine, download a fresh copy of the update and re-install. If the problem still persists, you may want to uninstall the MSE and re-install the updated version. Hope that helps.
