Microsoft Security Essentials cannot start

I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials for quite a long time now until today I don’t know what happened, essentials doesn’t want to start and it is giving me error so my essential has an X and color red now.

Your computer might infected by some malware program that’s why it keep blocking your MSE from running.  

So to fix this one you need to run virus scan to your computer.

I normally use Malwarebytes for removing malware, run it on safe mode. You can download malwarebytes here.

Download it and try that one to your computer.

If it is not solved using malware bytes, you might need also to check out Microsoft online scanner here .

Try also to re-install the software it the issue is not about virus threats – Re-installation of software sometimes fixed some software problems.

Hi,

Microsoft Security Essentials running with your PC is corrupted. You need to remove it and install a fresh one.

You have to go to following steps to delete it. Delete "Microsoft Security Essentials" folder in the location C:Program filesMicrosoft Security Essentials. Here you may receive an "Access Denied" error message while deleting the above folder.

If so go to Start – Run and enter the code cmd and a command prompt window will appear. Enter Cacls "C:Program filesMicrosoft Security Essentials" /t /g everyone:f in the command prompt window and exit it. Now you can delete the "Microsoft Security Essentials" folder in the said location. Install a fresh one.
