Windows Installer is preparing to install the package when opening .doc file

I have been running Microsoft office 2003 in my notebook and never saw this type of strange looking message.

When I try to open an office document a pop up message saying that windows installer is preparing to install the package.

I have to wait around a minute to open the file. I don’t understand what type of program required installing time and time again to run office program.

I thought it could be the result of corrupted system file and reinstall the office program. But same message does appear again.

What else can I do?

I am going mad about this problem. Are you familiar with the message?

Brolin did you try to install any new program of Microsoft recently?

I have seen this before in my system too when I wanted to add new features to my Microsoft Office program. Basically the reason behind this is , Windows was specially instructed to install something by the program and requires the installation CD to get the proper files.

This can occur in Windows XP and Microsoft Office. You will need the relative installation CD.

You can easily verify that using the Windows Event log.

  • Click Start, Run and type eventvwr.msc
  • Select the Application log
  • Look for the recent entries with the source column containing MsiInstaller
  • Double mouse click the entry for more details.
  • In this way it may show you  the product name for which the installation/repair took place.
