Hi there,

I have bought Microsoft Office 2011 for MAC and after installing when I want to open a word file I have this error. I have run a full install of Office and I don’t know why is saying that I need to install the spelling checker. Can anyone help me to fix this error ? Why I have this error message since it is an official version with license ?

Thanks !

Word cannot start the spelling checker. The spelling checker files may be missing. Make sure the spelling checker files are installed or use the Microsoft Office Installer to install the spelling checker

If Microsoft Office Word for Mac cannot start properly and displays an error about the spell checker, try updating Microsoft Office. Since Microsoft Office Word doesn’t open, open another Microsoft Office application like Microsoft Office Excel. Next, click Help and then select “Check for Updates”. Once the update is finished, close Microsoft Office and restart your computer.

Any problems you encounter in the software should be fixed after installing the latest updates. In case installing the latest updates didn’t help solve the problem, try this instead. Open Microsoft Office Word but don’t open any file yet. Go to “Check spelling as you type” and “Check grammar as you type” and then turn them OFF. After that, open a Microsoft Office Word document file and you will notice that it will open the file successfully.

According to some users that also got affected by this error, it is a bug in the 2011 version of Microsoft Office for Mac and also according to the technical support personnel from Microsoft this problem is easily fixed by updating Microsoft Office to the latest version.
