Before the name change, Microsoft has been receiving a lot of criticisms from analysts and through articles about the name “Metro” for its user interface. Meanwhile, Microsoft defends that “Metro” is a mere code and is not intended to be a term for consumers to use. recently, Microsoft have renamed the UI as “Modern.”

Windows 8 has two operating environments but the new Metro environment with its new Metro-style apps and experiences. Microsoft said Metro is the codename for their design language. The word Metro was picked because the name was modern and clean.
