Hi there,

I am trying to install Threat Management Gateway 2010 Enterprise on a Windows 2008 R2 server and during the install I have this error. My Internet connection is working just fine and also my Windows is working very well. Any solution for this error ? What is causing this ?

Thank you !

This issue happens on servers when hardening is applied on the operating system preceding the installation of Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway [TMG]. Because of this hardening, some of the services that are needed by Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway to function properly have been disabled incorrectly which in turn throws the error you see on your screen.

The only supported method of doing hardening on a computer that runs on Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway to fix it, is to start the Security Configuration Wizard tool or SCW and then use the Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway security configuration template [XML file] that corresponds to your deployment to be able to harden the server properly.

The Security Configuration Wizard doesn’t support Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 role by default as well as Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway Enterprise Management Server [EMS] role. To be able to support these roles, download and install “TMGRolesForSCW.exe” which is included in TMG 2010 Tools and Software Development Kit. Another possible way of fixing it is to uninstall all network interfaces using the Device Manager and let them detect it again.
