Perhaps the installation wasn't completed successfully that's why the installer wasn't able to configure the computer properly resulting to the error message. Try to uninstall the Messenger application again and download the latest version. Have the latest version installed on the machine and make sure it is completed successfully. Restart your computer after then try to open the program after the computer reboots. This should refresh all the files and get the application to work. If it doesn't, try to disable some of the startup items and background services and open the Messenger again. This is to make sure it is not being blocked by other applications.
