McAfee Alert Host stopped working on Windows 7

Hi All,

I encountered a problem with my McAfee antivirus software. I repeatedly get a ‘McAfee Alert Host has stopped working’ message soon after logging into my system. This message is consistently replayed every few minutes. I experience this problem while I’m logged in as administrator or as a standard user as well. The error message offers to check up a solution online to fix the problem, but when I choose this option nothing happens. I tried restarting my computer several times but this did not succeed in removing the error. As far as I know, all the software including McAfee is updated and my windows 7, 64 bit OS also has all the recent updates installed. What could be giving this error? I can’t remember making any major changes to my system recently. Please send forth any idea you may have. Thanks a lot for your help.
