Master data services Configuration Manager error SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi All,

I managed full installation of my server from scratch and did it in this order:

  • Windows server 2008
  • Active directory with DNS
  • SQL server (all services running as administrator)
  • IIS
  • Master Data Service (MDS)

As MDS was completely installed the configuration manager was also in progress. I faced the error as follows:

“An unexpected error occurred: Some or all identity references could not be translated.”

I had also fully installed similar systems in different servers although without IIS. It is good that I faced no errors, yet no doubt without IIS I was unable to go very far in the MDS configuration! And basically I need to install SharePoint 2010 too therefore I really do need IIS!

Is there any option regarding this matter that you can suggest please?

I thank you for your kind help.

The directory that you are trying to install into has the write privileges or not?

If it has something to do with rights then better login as Administrator of the computer and install it anyway.

There will be some places where you will be issuing permissions later on during the installation too.

Try running it with an APM supported server that has preinstalled APM package in it.

APM is basically a tool which helps to run the scripts.

One other way is the installation of the Orion Windows Event Forwarder which will help you create new alerts in the system log and then you can tackle the exact problem.
