I have a MacBook Pro from a coming years ago. When I turned it on tonight there was nothing on the screen but a big grey box. I have reset the computer and each time it keeps coming up the same way. Has any one had this happen and know how to fix it?

Mac Book Screen Problem Help?

There are a few options you can try:

  1. Try to boot your pc in Safe Mode: In Mac OS X 10.2 and older, you can Safe Boot to check and repair your disks.  To start in Safe Mode, turn your Mac off by the power switch.  Press the Power Button to turn it on again, and hold down the power button while holding down the Shift key.  When the Apple Logo appears on the screen, let go of the Shift key. After the Mac fully starts, restart it normally without holding down any keys while it’s starting up.  Note: Safe Boot is slower to boot up than normally booting up.
  2. Run the Disk Utility: Power the Mac off.  Turn it back on and hold down the Command and R keys at the same time, until the Apple logo appears on the screen.  When the “Mac OS X Utilities” window appears, select “Disk Utility” and click on the OS X hard drive.  Select “Verify/Repair Disk”.
  3. Reset Mac PRAM: PRAM stores some of the Mac’s settings. Turn off your Mac at the power button.  Turn it back on and hold down the “Option” “P” and “R” keys simultaneously until it restarts.  While it’s starting up, release all the keys simultaneously.
  4. Re-installing the Mac OS X: Connect your Mac to the internet.  Follow the same steps as number 2 above. When the “Mac OS X Utilities” window appears, select the “Reinstall” option.
