If you have enabled “Lync Federation to MSN” in Microsoft Lync and a remote contact is using MSN 2011, you can now create or start a video or audio call. But in order for you to make this work, you need to modify the default encryption type for Microsoft Lync because if you don’t, you will receive the error “Cannot complete the call. There was an encryption mismatch between you and xxx [who ever you are calling]”. See image.

You need to change the encryption type from “RequireEncryption” to “SupportEncryption”. To do this, start Microsoft Lync then open Lync Server Management Shell. Type without quotes “set-csmediaconfiguration -encryption supportencryption” and hit Enter. It should work after this.
