Linux Mint 10 Synaptic Error

I am running Linux mint 10 Gnome When I run Synaptic manager It says not able to install. I could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock – open ( No such file or directory) Unable to lock the administration directory.

Any solution of this problem.

Hi Thomas_1,

      You have to try the following solutions:     

  1. Synaptic Manager cannot be able to installed software because of the different dependencies or any other problem similar to inner compiler failure: Segmentation error.  You have to delete the software contradicts with the command dpkg-r  package name.  You can  use this solution every time for the correction of  the software package and you have to use also sudo dpkg-configure-a for you to assemble the software which do not installed.
  2. You can also look for the Debian-specific repository with identical program. the absence of it maybe one of the reasons.
  3. Just remember, it will be easy for you to find synaptic system tools menu if you are using Debian or Ubuntu.
