Limiting Windows 7 x64 to use only one core of one CPU

Can I limit Windows 7 x64 to use only one core of one CPU?

I have tried but failed.

Task Manager still shows four columns that were all in use from time to time, and Device Manager still showed all the 4 cores.

BIOS does not have any option.

Yes you can do it. but there is no use of doing it unless you also have VMWare installed on your system.

Anyways here are the steps to enable this option.

You can set any number of cores or assign it to be used by windows 7

Open Start Menu.

Type msconfig and press Enter.

In the Boot tab, click on Advance Options.

Check the Number of Processors and select any number as you wish.

Click Ok.

In the previous window where all the Tabs are visible, look at the right bottom.

Check the Make All Boot Settings Permanent.

Click Apply and then click Ok.

Restart and you are running windows 7 only on 1 core.
