Hello, the dell hard drive error code 2000- 0146 mainly arises due to an improper power supply to the system or overcharging of the battery.

Try the following steps

1. During the booting process go to the BIOS (basic input output system)
Settings and select drive options.

2. Change drive option from SATA mode to ATA mode and save the changes.

3. Booting device in safe mode is preferred and use a flash drive or any other storage device to transfer your data (recommended).

Error code 0146 in Dell self-test, unlike error code 0142, indicates a failed or failing hard drive. If your computer suddenly crashed or displayed a blue screen (BSOD) or suddenly booted to the BIOS, it means your hard disk is about to fail and is no longer functioning correctly. Dell advises that you replace your hard drive in case you encounter this error.

Error code 0146 indicates failing drive

But still, try booting your computer even on Safe Mode. Press F8 on your keyboard before the Windows logo appears to boot the computer in Safe Mode. If you are prompted with different user accounts when logging in, select the “Administrator” account to login. Once logged in, click “Start”, “All Programs”, “Accessories”, and then “Command Prompt”. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “chkdsk /r” then hit Enter.

This will allow the chkdsk utility to locate bad sectors and recover any readable information which can help you boot your computer again normally. After this, restart your computer normally and see if it works. If it doesn’t, the hard drive needs to be replaced. Also, if you are using a regular desktop computer, you might also want to check the cables connected to your hard disk.

Disconnect and reconnect both the ribbon cable and the power supply cable.
