The latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials supports Windows Vista and Windows 7 both 32-bit and 64-bit. It doesn’t support Windows XP, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. Windows XP is supported on Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0 but not on Microsoft Security Essentials 4.5. Windows 8.x and later operating systems are not supported because they have their own security subsystem or antivirus called Windows Defender.
