Its very easy to create an illustrator clipping mask. First step is to choose an image to be placed. Now create an item to be used as a mask by using some tools to create any shape. Prefer using selection tool to select a placed image. Now shift click to add to the selection to the object. Now choose object clipping, mask and then make. Choose release tomake the clipping mask turn off. Hope this helps.
