Internet Explorer 9 is the latest version released. Compared to Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome it has the following features:

  • Notifies you when certain add-ons slows down the performance of your browser
  • When you are using Windows 7, websites can be pinned to your taskbar
  • Supports H.264-encoded HTML5 video

You can download the latest version of IE9 at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17621/internet-explorer-downloads. However, you need to have a Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 as your OS in order to use this browser. Aside from that, a 70 MB Hard Drive space is necessary. A full list of system requirements can be found at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/products/internet-explorer.

I hope this helps!

If you want to have the latest version of Windows Internet Explorer, that would depend on your current operating system. If you are using Microsoft Windows XP, the latest possible version you can have is Windows Internet Explorer 8. That’s the newest version compatible with Windows XP.

Windows Internet Explorer 8 supports Windows XP Service Pack 2 and higher, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, and Windows Server 2008. If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista, the latest possible version you can install is Windows Internet Explorer 9. That’s the highest version you can upgrade to.

Windows Internet Explorer 9 supports Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or higher, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 or higher, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit only) both 32-bit and 64-bit. If you are using Microsoft Windows 7, the highest possible version you can install is Windows Internet Explorer 11.

Windows Internet Explorer 11 supports Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 both 32-bit and 64-bit as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (64-bit only) and Windows Server 2012 R2. The Windows Internet Explorer or Microsoft Internet Explorer browser is a discontinued series of web browsers developed by Microsoft.
