Dear Experts,

I am using an ACER4720Z laptop with 320 GB HDD and 3 GB Internal RAM.

For the last couple of days it is taking more time to log in than usual.

I have made no changes or installed a new application during this period.

Please suggest me the possible reason and a way to get this fixed.

Hello,

I will suggest you a few things that can be your solution:

First you can try with removing programs who are loaded on startup. Go to Start > Run. Write msconfig in the Run and in System Configuration Utility click on Startup. There you can check and uncheck programs who you want to be loaded on startup. I suggest you to uncheck the most of them that you don’t need.

Second you can delete programs that you don’t use in Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs.

The third thing that you can do is to get Spyware Software (Spybot S&D, Spyware Doctor etc.) to clean your computer if there is spyware which make your startup slowly.

You can also format the computer and this will for sure fix your issue, but first try for other solutions.

If your Acer laptop now takes a lot of time to log in to your account, the usual cause is virus infection. If you are not sure if your computer is infected, download Sophos Virus Removal Tool and install it. Once installed, start Sophos then wait for the virus signature database to get updated. When updating is complete, click to start scanning your computer.

The tool scans everything on your machine including external devices connected via USB port. If a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove or delete it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus. This tool is not an antivirus but a program designed to remove hard to detect viruses.

You can use it along with your antivirus and you don’t need to uninstall or disable your antivirus. It can only be used for several months and will automatically stop working when it reaches the end of its usability period. If you want to use it again, you need to download a new copy. If the problem continues, try to disable some of your startup programs.
