I am an avid gamer, and I have set up my primary desktop computer with this hobby in mind. However, I will have to travel a lot in the coming months, and I wanted to buy a laptop that would allow me to play on the go.

I have restricted my search to the Lenovo Y50 and the MSI GE60 Apache.

Which would perform better when gaming? Is there something better on the market within this price range?

Normally, if you want a computer that is best for gaming, you would want it to have a bigger memory for games that require big RAMs and for optimal performance and a video card with at least 512 MB video RAM or higher. The higher video RAM for the video card, the better but it would certainly hurt your budget.

I’ve already checked video cards with 1 GB video RAM and they are expensive and way out of my budget. Looking at the computer models you mentioned, I would say the MSI GE Series GE60 Apache Pro-003 is the fastest of the two. The Lenovo Y50 runs only on Dual Core Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz processor while the MSI GE60 Apache Pro runs on Quad Core Intel Core i7 2.40 GHz processor.

The Lenovo Y50 comes pre-installed with 64-bit Microsoft Windows 8.1 with Dual Core Intel Core i5 2.8 GHz processor, 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M video card, and 8 GB DDR3L RAM. The memory can be upgraded up to 16 GB. See image.

The MSI GE60 Apache Pro also ships with 64-bit Microsoft Windows 8.1. It runs on Quad Core Intel Core i7 2.40 GHz processor, 2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M graphics adapter, and 8 GB DDR3L 1600 RAM. See image.
