Laptop cannot detect my hard disk when installing Windows XP installer?

Hello,

My PC Laptop is showing corrupted windows system 32 configurations. I have purchased a windows XP service pack 2 installer to reformat my laptop to fix the issue.

Unfortunately upon installation of windows XP service pack 2, my screen shows that my hard disk can't be detected but in fact it is well detected when I press the F2 key for checking my system.

Does it mean hard disk failure?

HI Jessicapaulette,

You need to follow these steps in order to reboot your laptop correctly without facing the same error:

1.   Go into BIOS setup,  Usually, you press a key as your laptop starts, right at the beginning the Common keys to go to the BIOS set up are ESC, DEL, F1, F2 and F6. Depends on your unit, I guess its F2 you mentioned about it above!

2.  Go to the Desk Controller settings

3.  Change it from AHCI to IDE.

It should be working after this. Hopefully the hard disk isn’t corrupted because in this case, the only solution will be replacing it.

Good luck

You need to install the operating system to the  hard-drive in another computer  and you'll need to boot from a CD to do this.

Before will this make sure that you change the boot priority in the BIOS of course you should boot first the CD-drive before it goes to the hard-drive.

If the problem is still there, it probably is a motherboard issue.

Replace the laptop.
