In order to bypass too complicated F-Secure’s instructions that required typing commands in Mac OS X terminal window and interpreting the replies what was too much for users without non-technical skills, Kaspersky Lab launched a website where customers can type in their UUIDs (unique hardware identifiers) to see whether they are infected with Flashback or not.

Kaspersky released a removal tool named Flashfake Removal Tool which will detect and remove Flashback Trojan from the Mac. When using it user will be prompted to enter their administrator password. Well, that solution might have helped or not.

First version had a bug that made more problems than solutions for its users. A new version of tool was released on April 13th and included necessary updates. Kaspersky also announced several things to do in order to boost security of the Mac:

creating a non-admin account for everyday activities, switching to Google Chrome as primary browser because of its sandboxed Flash Player plug-in and silent automatic updates, uninstalling the standalone Flash Player, Java problem solving, disabling a blootooth, AirPort and IPv6, upgrading Adobe Reader to version 10, using password manager to prevent a phishing attacks, enabling full disk protection etc.
