Hi friends,

ITunes error 1601/1602 while upgrading to custom firmware ios 5.0.1 (to preserve BB).

I have tried Ireb to put the phone on DFU mode, but still getting the error 1601 or 1602. Can you please let me know what am I doing wrong here?

Currently I’m on 5.0 tethered with sim to unlock

Hallo Jana,

In the event that you are using tinyumbrella, you will just need to unmark the host file by going to the advanced tab, and after that you should try to restore it.

Another resolution will be to use the following process:

  • Hold power + home button on your keyboard for about 6 seconds to that to force power-off.
  • After that you will need to use redsn0w in order to enter pwnd-DFU mode, which is need to restore a custom firmware w/iTunes.
  • Note that the etc/hosts file should not have gs.apple.com.
