Hallo there!

I have purchased a Check point VPN client to use in securing my networks and filtering of data exchange. I would like the same to filter the traffic and act as my sole network firewall protection. Is it possible and is it okay to configure it on a Windows Server 2008 platform? Thanks for your invaluable and prompt response.

Hello Harold,

The answer is yes, however please be notified that by installing your firewall on a windows 2008 server platform, it will inherit of the OS vulnerabilities, meaning that an intruder could use an exploit in Win 2008 to bypass your firewall.

It's always safer to have an appliance based or dedicated virtual machine as a firewall.

Hope his helps.

Hi there Harold,

As per checking in the Check Point Product Reference Guide, Check point VPN  Appliances provide a unique and comprehensive virtualized security solution that includes firewall, VPN, IPS, and URL filtering. However, according to Check Point Product Reference Guide there are only selected Check Point Products that were supported by Windows Server 2008.

These products as mentioned in their product guide are Remote Access Clients E75 (with SecuRemote, CheckPoint MObile, Endpoint Security Client VPN features) and EndPoint Security Client E80.41. Any of these products you do have right now, yes they are Windows 2008 compatible.

I hope this information helps you.
