PC are built with functionalities for long time usage. To be sure there are some servers that you shall see working all day and night 24 hours. These servers are the ones that you are getting on the web.

Just think the server at a big company server PC working all the time in suitable condition.

The normal desktop at homes can also be used, However the temperature may raise that has to be cooled as and when required. The temperature comes below a certain point, the then also problem occurs. Keep at room temperature with UPS and it work for 24 hours all day long.

Hi Rabecca Michel,

I appreciate you for posting your question here.  Your question is if is it okay to leave a desktop that is on continuously. I think there is nothing wrong with leaving your PC on and it is not harmful to your hardware. The danger thing there is if you unplug the pc without turning off. I am also like you I always leave my desktop on for several years but still I have not observed any damages with my hardware.

I hope I have help you.

Hello Michel,

There is nothing wrong with leaving your desktop on for 24/7. Probably there is no harm to be caused to your computer hardware, but, as you know some problems can occur. These problems are rare but not impossible like there can be an electricity failure and your power supply can be damaged if you do not use UPS. Same thing can happen to your computer monitor as well as your speaker and other appliances.

Personally I have faced some peculiar problems leaving my desktop on idly for several hours. After several hours of idleness my computer becomes very slow. It takes too much time to respond, so, I eventually restart the system. Though there is nothing to worry about your computer’s hardware for leaving it on for couple of days, but, yet I will suggest you to turn your computer off when you are going out or not around for several hours. Hope this will reduce your anxiety.

Thanks.

Hi Michel,

You can leave your computer on, actually it depends on the electricity regularities, if your power is stable and do not makes a break in a sudden than there is no harm leaving computer on. But you know it is better practice to switch it off when you have no work with it or you are leaving that computer. If you keep on your computer continuously than it may shows some problems like power box failure or other part may fail to work properly.

Thank you,

Riley Weaver.
