I am not so familiar with IRC. I have to work on it for my next project. So I need to figure it out quickly. As far as I know, it is a chat system based on the internet. But I am confused about creating accounts.
You don’t actually have to create an account. You can directly go to the chat room (channel we say) by installing a client software.
What kind of client software do I need? Are they free?
There are a lot of options. You can use MIRC (proprietary).
Xchat, Silverex, Miranda, Chatzilla etc.
Just download them and follow the instructions. I prefer to use xchat. It's a free and cross platform.
I have downloaded and installed XCHAT from here, http://xchat.org/download/. Now what?
When you run the xchat program, you shall see a screen probably like this:
Set a nickname (this will be your name appearing to other users); from the network list select the network ;Â When you are connected you shall be prompted for the channel name ; you can enter it there.
