I want to update my iPod Touch to the latest OS update which is the iOS 6. But I heard that will cost me to lose all my current settings. Will it be worth it?

Hi Heather Abreu,

Whenever you update your iOS to the latest firmware, your previous settings are not applicable or valid for the new version of iOS. It means you must have to lose your current settings to come to the new settings.

So, updating to a newer version of iOS means you must have to repeat on the same process on installing all the softwares. There is no reason for not upgrading to the newer iOS version because newer iOS firmwares provide better user experience with increased application reliability and many other handy features too. We recommend you to upgrade your iOS because it’s worth it. 🙂

When updating an iOS device, Apple always recommends to always backup your device in case something goes wrong. You should also take note that, when updating an iOS device to a higher version of the platform or firmware, none of your data and files will be lost. Since your files will stay intact after the update, I think it also works the same with your device’s settings.

I don’t think the settings will be modified or will revert to defaults after the update. You will only lose your settings when doing a factory reset but that is totally different with updating the iOS platform. When backing up your device before updating, iCloud is always the best choice.
