People are saying that an iPhone has exploded in a 17 year old boy's pocket. Is it true ? Did any one know about this and any other scenarios where this kind of exploding happened with iPhone ?

Unfortunately, you have heard it right. There was an accident in which an iPhone exploded but boy was not harmed. His name is Henri Helminen, 17 years old who bought his iPhone 3 months back. He was not harmed because as soon as he realized smoke coming from his pocket, he threw his iPhone outside on floor. This incident was captured by security cam and was uploaded to internet as well. There are also other reports of iPhone explode. In Sydney, Australia according to an airline an iPhone exploded during a flight when suddenly an iPhone went glowing red and started emitting smoke. Just after some days of this accident another iPhone exploded in Brazil, when its owner was sleeping nearby.

Aside from iPhone there have been an accident involving Samsung Galaxy II Skyrocket, also.
