A possible solution to the problem is to download from this website, https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/Firmware, the IOS 4.1 ISPW. To change your phone to PWNED DFU MODE, open the redsnow 0.9.6B5. Go to iTunes and if you followed it properly up to this point, your phone should be detected in Recovery Mode. Click Shift+Restore on your keyboard while pointing to the 4.1 ISPW you've just recently downloaded. You should expect iTunes to restore and show the error 1015 again. You don't have to worry about that. Afterwards, open the tiny umbrella software and click on Exit Recovery.

Your phone should now reboot and lead you to an emergency screen. Now, you should use redsnow again while pointing to the4.1 ISPW. Run both the installation for Cydia and iPad baseband then follow the instructions for jailbreaking properly. Another solution to consider is going to iTunes and updating it to iOS 5.1.1. Doing this should get rid of the stock recovery mode.

Error 1015 occurs when you try to downgrade your iPhone's software. This is because you are trying to restore using the old .ipsw file which do not supports downgrading to the past versions. To fix this, restore your iPhone with the latest software which you can get from Apple website. This error also occurs when there is a unauthorized modification on your iOS device such as if you jailbreak it and you want to restore it to the official and original state.
