Hi everyone,
I need help with my internet. It seems to disconnect, when I leave my laptop. What I usually do is, just leave it when I am done using it.
Earlier, whenever I come back to use it, I still had my internet working. However now, when I come back, It is not connected and I cannot browse the net.
I'm using a wireless connection and the router my brother is using, is just a few meters away.
Please help.

Does it happen when you're using a wired connection? ( LAN / cable). I have a theory in mind but I need to verify that information first.

Since you mentioned you are on a wireless network, is this at home or at work? if it is at home, check how the router gets connected to the internet, because there are options like connect on demand or forever connected in some router settings.
you might also want to post your router model.

Yes it is on a home network, but it happens both at work and at home. I am not sure of the model, of the router since it was the techguy that setup it up.
Its a linksys as far as I know.

It seems that you are using wireless connection all the time. Here's my earlier theory. It might be that when you're not using the PC, it goes to sleep to save power. There is an option in the OS to disable or turn off the wireless device to save power.
You can view this option here:
1. Go to Network and Sharing center
2. Look for your connection, click View Status
3. Go to properties
4. Go to configure
5. Go to power management
6. Look if there is a check mark on the option "allow the computer to turn off device…"
7. Click Ok.
Test to see if the internet connection drops when you go idle.

That is a good find drnetwork.
Since it sinigang is on a wireless network, they might as well check that.
As for the router like I mentioned, you can have the tech guy take a look at how it is connected. I feel something is set to, too low that it disconnects, when the laptop is idle and not transferring data over the internet.

I'll try that but to be sure, I'll be removing the checkmark correct? Anyway, I will remove it and see. I will also call the tech guy to check the router settings.

We tried it and put my laptop to sleep for a few minutes. When we woke it up, the internet was still connected. Were going to try it for a few more times.

You were being disconnected because of the connection time-out settings for your computer or in your access point. Work- Work around for this is open your command prompt then on the command prompt type “PING HONEYBYTES.BLOGSPOT.COM –t” without the quotes. Or you may also PING some other domains or website you like.
This is because when the router detects that you are idle or your computer doesn’t have any transactions or traffic on the internet. The router or your computer itself disconnects you from the network. So by PING command, you have transactions over the internet. The router or your computer doesn’t close your connection.
Changing the time out settings doesn’t help that is why I have not discussed the way of doing it.
