When you said internal microphone, does that mean that you're using a laptop? If so, check the following:

First, you have to make sure that the internal microphone is switched on. Switching on or enabling the microphone depends on what brand of laptop you are using. Most of the laptops require its user to press Fn + (the function key with a microphone icon on it). Then, it should display a notification window on your status bar informing the user that a device has been detected.

You can also check Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage audio devices > Recording tab

Check which microphone is enabled or disabled.

Hello Asquare25, you must have disabled the internal microphone this is why the external microphone is working fine so nothing to do with the drivers. Follow the steps to Restore your Internal Microphone (I am supposing you are using WINDOWS 7):

  1. go to the CONTROL PANEL
  2. click on View by: and select Small/large icons instead of Category
  3. click on Sounds a new window will be appear
  4. click on the Recording tab and right click under External Microphone
  5. and select Show Disabled Devices and Enable the Internal Microphone

Finally you will be having Internal Microphone visible on sounds and skype as well. Hope this will solve your problem. Thank you
