The users are encountering an error that says you have insufficient access when they try to sign on to a domain and add a printer on their local computer. I have set up an active directory previously. How can I set up a printer for all the users? What should be the user configuration for each user in the domain?

Good day.

This issue can be easily resolved by following this steps.

You have to make sure that the option "Prevent users from installing printer drivers" is disabled, because by default it is enabled.

Just follow the Procedure below on how to disable it.

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Local Security Policy.
  2. Double-click Local Policies.
  3. Double-click Security Options.
  4. In the right pane, double-click Prevent users from installing printer drivers.
  5. Click Disabled, and then click OK.
  6. Close the Local Security Settings window.

I recommend you to reboot all you workstations and also the server so that the changes will take effect immediately.

I suggest you take a look on every cable connections from your workstations to the server as well as the cable from the printer to the server. This will help you sort out some lose connection that is preventing access to your network.

Happy printing.

Hi,

You are facing this error because you don’t have sufficient rights to access domain controller resources. To properly access the domain controller resources (like printer, etc) the user should be part of admin or other group which have access to resources. I am going to write the steps to add a user in power user group. Please follow this in your environment.

  1. Right click My Computer.
  2. Click Manage.
  3. Double Click “Local Users and Groups”.
  4. Click Groups.
  5. Right click Power User and click Properties.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Now add the user which want to access the printer.
  8. Click, Ok and OK.

You will able to access the printer.
