That’s odd. My old computer is also running on Microsoft Windows XP but never had that error when installing an application. Maybe I encountered it once or even twice but never in all programs I installed. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, it might help if you install Windows Installer because it is the module that handles all the program installation on the computer.

You can download it from Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable. It requires Windows XP Service Pack 2 and up and Windows Vista. For servers, it can be installed on Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and up and Windows Server 2008. Aside from installing Windows Installer to have much better installation functionality, installing or updating your operating system’s Service Pack would be a good idea.

The latest Service Pack that can be installed on Microsoft Windows XP is Service Pack 3 but you can only install this Service Pack if you already have Service Pack 2. If you don’t, you need to update to Service Pack 2 first before you can go to Service Pack 3. You can download the latest Service Pack from Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Once downloaded, run the installer to install Service Pack 3 update package. Once it is finished, restart your computer to complete the update. When Service Pack 3 is installed, you no longer need to install Windows Installer because this Service Pack is already equipped with the latest Windows Installer.
