Hi Guys,

Most of the laptops now comes with Windows 8 pre-installed but the license key is not on the laptops anymore. I guess, the key is stored somewhere in BIOS but it is impossible to read it. So what I want to know if I need the product key to download Windows 8 from Microsoft? Does anybody have some insights about it? Anyone can help? Thank you.

Hello, Your Windows 8 product key is in the email confirmation you received when you buy Windows 8 for download or with packaging if you purchased it from a shop. If Windows is preinstalled on your PC, you will get your product key on a sticker which is on your PC or Laptop or it is with your documentation.

Newly released laptops nowadays with pre installed genuine windows 8 are embedded in the BIOS of the system. If you need to reinstall it you don’t need to copy the code like what you do on windows 7. The validation key/license key of Windows 8 will automatically get its licensed key in the BIOS after installation.

If windows 8 require any product key you have been given with the prodect key on your CD cover.

Just read and write on the required part.

This will resolve your problem. In another case go online search it will mail you the product key in your account that you provided to it. Now mostly products keys are not required in Windows 8. Just go to buy latest Windows 8 CD and enjoy it without any product key.
