I have a Compaq Presario CQ61 and I wanted to install both the Linux OS and Windows 7 in it. However, whenever I would perform the installation, Linux would always erase the entire drive. Please advice me on what I need to do. Thank you.

Hallo Albie,

First make sure that you have the windows 7 operating system installed before you install linux. Then get a linux installation CD ready for installation, or you can use a bootable USB device that has linux to install.

Insert your CD ready to run the installation, and when the installation reaches the point where it asks you to format the partition that windows is on so that you can install linux on it, do not do that. Instead, choose the option for installing linux on the same partition with windows without formatting the partition and the installer will ask you to create some kind of partition where linux will reside on the partition that currently has windows.

When the installation has completed and you boot the computer, the system will give you both windows and linux so that you choose the operating system that you want to boot with.
