I have a virtual PC which has Windows 7 installed on one of the machines. I was trying to install in the XP mode in one of them and was successful. But when I try to update Windows update, I get installer error message.

I have a genuine copy of Windows 7 installed on my Virtual Machine. Do I need to do something else, in order for me to update Windows on one of my Virtual machine?

Please help

If your copy of Microsoft Windows 7 is installed in your virtual machine and it is already installed as your operating system in your local machine, that one will be treated as pirated by Microsoft.

OEM license allows to install, in just one computer. Installing on the second machine, will be treated as pirated by Microsoft. Although it is the virtual machine, which is using the same specs as that of your computer, the virtual machine creates its own profile and ID, which is checked by Microsoft License detection program.

Best thing to do is, use another OEM license for your virtual machine. Please refer to Microsoft Licensing program for more details.

Hi there user:

Here’s my suggestion and hope could be your solution. First of all, update your windows; I think you are running a Windows Vista before. And then reset your Internet Explorer, or just restore the default settings. Remove any Anti-Virus Software and then boot. You can download the Windows Virtual PC Installation. Install it.

Thanks for posting.

Kind regards,
