Hello everyone,

I am using Mac OS X and I installed iDVD to create DVDs of my projects. When I browse to select the project to burn, I get an error as displayed below. If I choose to continue burning, either my system hangs or the program quits. What can I do?

It is recommended that you fix these problems before burning the project

Warnings in project

There were warnings during the project validation. It is recommended that you fix these problems before burning the project.

Hey Mr.Moyer,

1. The first thing you can try is to create a new project altogether and see if the problem persists. Also, make sure that you have atleast 20 GB of free Hard Disk space.

2. If this does not work, check the DVD map for yellow triangles that suggest empty drop zones. Re-adding the file you want to burn will help.

3. If you have moved the video you are trying to burn, you can do one of three things to fix the problem.
i)  Tell iDVD the new location of the video
ii)  Move the video back to its original location
iii)  Re-add video to iDVD which will in fact create a new shortcut.

If you have renamed the video, you can do one of two things to fix the problem.
i)  Re-add video to iDVD which will in fact create a new shortcut.
ii)  Rename video to it3. s original name.

After this again start over completely with creating your project

Hi James,
This warning window pops up when you have left out empty drop zones in the menu layout. It is to inform you that the drop zone requirements, as designed by Apple Designers, are not fulfilled.Follow the below steps to fix the issue:
1) When the error window pops up, click on 'Open DVD Map' button. In the DVD map menu, look for thumbnails having small yellow triangle or any exclamatory mark beside it.
2) Place the mouse cursor on that exclamation point and a message is generated as 'Menu has empty drop zones'.
3) Click on the 'Return' button at the bottom of the DVD map window.Fill in the the empty drop zones with the iDVD themes, to get nice DVD menus. Now burn your project into DVD successfully, without any warning messages.

If you keep receiving this error on a particular project, try updating to the latest version. Download iDVD 7.1.2. It supports OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks, 10.10 Yosemite, 10.11 El Capitan, 10.12 Sierra, 10.13 High Sierra, and 10.14 Mojave. If this doesn’t fix the problem, check the file you are burning.

Try also to replace the blank DVD disc you are using to burn the file. Sometimes the problem is with the brand. For a little history, iDVD is a discontinued DVD-creation program for Macintosh computers developed by Apple Inc. It allows users to burn QuickTime movies, MP3 files, and digital photos to a DVD disc that you can play on a normal DVD player.
