I'm trying to install VMware Server 2.0 on my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420 114155U 14" LED Notebook – Core i3-2310M 2.1GHz with Windows Vista OS installed). I don’t think the problem should be in the Windows Vista cause the VMware Server 2.0 is supposed to run without any problems on Windows XP and Windows Vista. This is the message that I am getting:

VMware Server

Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: VM_InstallJre.0D1A8168_EESC_4EBD_8D36_0F85FF… Thank you in advance!

There are some issues regarding installation of VMware Server 2.0 in windows Vista. This commonly encountered due to User Access Control or the user restrictions. There is some work-around found in the internet about this issue. There are some user says that you must make the User Access Control down or off then edit your VMware Server configuration file or the Config.ini found inside the VMware ProgramData then insert a line statement “host.TSC.noForceSync = true”.

Actually, this procedure is too tricky; we don’t really know what will be the result of our doing. Better to search on the internet for the right way of doing it. Doing the option A will not work for you but doing the option B works for you. I have one link here and most of them use this procedure and works. Just give a try.

Hope that this works for you. Good Luck!
