I am using Windows XP 64bit, and the Windows Live writer supports only Windows XP 32 bit. Also, I have tried it on Virtualbox XP32, guest with XP 64. The installation asks for Internet connectivity even if the Internet connection is available. Please give me some ideas regarding this?

Well, since you already identified that the windows live writer you have installed is meant for windows XP 32 bit and you have installed it on windows XP 32 bit, then that is the problem. Although it might have installed successfully, it still poses compatibility issues and it cannot work well on the windows version that you are using. That is why it keeps bringing such problems.
You will need to search the internet for a windows live writer program that is meant to run on the windows version that you have, download it and install it. That one should not bring the problems you are having right now.
