I have a Dell Dimension Laptop and tried to install a Windows XP. The installation did not continue because of an error message of “Some Files Missing”. I then decided to use another installer but gets the same issue, installation is not proceeding due to missing files. Can anybody give me an idea on how can I fix this?

Maybe you have problems with the installation disk. Sometimes they need some cleaning with a dry wipe. Try to do it in circles and initiate the installation again to see if it works.

If not, you will need a good installation CD/DVD to try to perform the installation.

If your dimension HDD never has been formatted or replaced, and if you purchased this computer, you can have the option to use the recovery partition already installed at the factory.

You may enter to this partition doing this:

1. Restart your computer and right after booting, press and hold "Ctrl"  key and then press F11 four or five times quickly. Just be sure that you do this before the Windows XP logo appears on the screen.

2. On the menu that comes up, highlight the option Restore using the tab key, then press the enter key

3. Confirm to restore. Remember that you will lose all of your information and Data. The computer will be restored to the factory settings, as same as the first time you powered it on when purchased.
