We all know the well known fact that Foxconn has already setup several companies for assembling Apple’s iPhones and iPads in China. But does Apple sign an agreement with Foxconn for its Innolux to manufacture components dedicated to Apple in future? Is Innolux Corp becoming a dedicated manufacturing factory for Apple?

The Innolux Corporation is actually not the original name of the company. It was originally Innolux Display Corp. and was established in 2003 and publicly listed in 2006. In March 2010, the company merged with 2 other companies: Chi Mei Optoelectronics and Toppoly Optoelectronics. This merger was the biggest in the flat panel display industry.

After the merger, the company was called Chimei Innolux Corporation where it initially kept the Chimei name. But in order to distinguish the company from the Chi Mei brand, the company Chimei Innolux Corporation was renamed to Innolux Corporation or INX in December 2012. On the other hand, Apple is making sure that it will have a stable supply of components for its current and future products.

And because of this, it made a request to Foxconn for preferential treatment. Foxconn agreed and it said its Innolux factory will manufacture displays exclusively for Apple. Aside from this, Foxconn already has dedicated factories in China for assembling iPhones and iPads. But with this arrangement, Innolux will become the first factory to manufacture a component exclusively for Apple.

It is also rumored that Innolux is one of the companies that provides 4.7-inch displays for iPhone 6. Although there is very less information about this agreement, Foxconn is likely to spend as much as $2.6 billion for the next 2 years.
