Minification is also known as minimization or minimisation. In JavaScript and programming languages, it is the method of eliminating all needless characters in a source code without altering its functionality. In webpage development, this is very useful because it decreases the file size of the JavaScript file which loads together with the HTML document.

When a page loads, it downloads all the elements included in the page and the bigger the size of the files, the longer the time it takes the page to load. So, when minification is applied to the JavaScript file, it will decrease the loading time of the page because of the decrease in file size of the JavaScript file.

CSS and JavaScript files can be minified and thus maintaining their behavior while significantly reducing their file size.
