There are some things you could try out in order to by pass the error. You could just try upgrading your Adobe illustrator version . That would definitely help you in order to overcome the different type of issues on this front.

The second thing you could do is,use your illustrator's content recovery mode to remove some binary data entries. Mostly the malformed ones. Trying these two methods will exactly help you in solving your issue.

If not, once close the illustrator and restart it once again and try the following.

Cheers.

Hello Fiann Friday,

This problem usually occurs due to the offending string operators. Updating your illustrator to CS5 or later may resolve this issue. In order to get rid of it without any up gradation do the following,

·         Open the illustrator and create a healthy new document and make a comparison between this and one with the offending operator.

·         Copy the desired artwork in the new healthy file.

·         Now you can open the newly created healthy file easily.

For discussion on this you can visit official link from Adobe http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/opening-illustrator-file-get-error.html
