IDEN comes to an End

Last few week ago, Sprint announced that they will not going to sell iDEN's device. And they will planning to shutdown  by the end of this month June 2012.

I love the iDEN fanatic and I was sad after hearing this bad news. What is the company's reason behind this problem?

IDEN comes to an End

Hello Lindakcarico,

At the end of this quarter Sprint will have less than 4 million iDEN customers. That’s not enough to even pay the bills to have the iDEN network up and running.  Sprint has spent over 5 BILLION on rebranding the 800mhz spectrum that iDEN uses because when Nextel service would cause interference with Public Safety like the Policy, Ambulances etc.

Also iDEN technology is terribly inefficient; take a look at tower spacing in NYC and Chicago. With end of iDEN, Sprint will be able to offer better coverage, faster speeds, and higher capacity than what iDEN could ever offer.

Best Regards,

Amanda Morson
