Hi! I am studying for Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification and need to set up a home laboratory so you can exercise and work my way that I can get some information. As holder, can anyone tell me what should I get? I found many websites and laboratory equipments, but I am a novice in networking that I can even avail professional views on this. I do not mind buying a complete kit with 3 routers, switches and laboratory, if that's what I needed. I have to do this, next week I'm going to start on the CCNA practice site and at the institute as well. I need some information about networking. Please help.

Hi!

If you just want to practice there is no need to buy any equipment. There are some software available to practice of CCNA it also work with CCNP.

1.      Packet Tracer

2.     GNS3

Packet Tracer is a simple software and easy to use. Its updated version in market is Packet Tracer 5.3.

There also available lab files of CISCO to practice.

GNS3 is little bit different but closer to real CISCO routers and switches. In GNS3 you have to use CISCO to configure any of router or switch or firewall. It works same like original devices.

These two software's are authorized by CISCO.
