Hi guys,

I received an error message while opening a video file with Windows Media Player. Have a look at the error message below. What does it mean? If you have any idea for the error message, please help me to solve the problem.

Thanks in advance.

Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player.

Hi Jean!

If it’s a downloaded or a copied file, you should try to re-download or re copy it again for it have lost some data while downloading or copying it.

If these not solve your problem you should try to use different media player like VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html or Klite Codec Pack http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

These kinds of issues with media player can occur if you have installed any third party codes to your computer. So first of all if you have installed any third party codec please remove them from your computer and try again.

If above option didn’t work you can try reinstalling windows media player. Follow below steps

1.       Open control panel and go to programs and features.

2.       Click on the windows features on or off in the left side pane.

3.       Expand media features and uncheck windows media player.

4.       Click ok and your media player will be uninstalled.

5.       Restart the computer and do the below steps again but this time check the windows media player check box and click ok.

6.       Windows media player will installed again and now you can try to open the files.
